Below is a picture of an end table that I “refinished”. I re-stained the legs a dark walnut and used dark green oil based paint on the top. I messed the top up a couple of times and had to strip and repaint it. Needless to say, I spent a lot of time on this. I put a price of $45 on it since it was solid wood.
Last week, Lana and I were moving some items around in the store. She saw the end table and I said I couldn’t understand why it hasn’t sold.
Lana: “Maybe because its ugly”. “I wouldn’t have that in my house”.
Larry: “It isn’t ugly, its unique and one of a kind. I’d be proud to have it in my house.”
Stalemate.
One of our Vendors was in today and I asked her what she thought of it. She asked if I was the one who had painted the top green, to which I replied, “yes”. She said, “well I would have done something different” (being diplomatic). I said Lana claimed it was ugly. The Vendor said “well she has a point” and walked away.
So enough already, its time for the public to have input. If you want to vote, you have four choices:
A) It’s beautiful, I’d by it for $45.
B) Lana’s right, its “ugly”.
C) That is so ugly you couldn’t give it away! You should break it up and use it for firewood.
D) Larry, don’t give up your day job.
Let me know what you think, the buying public. I can take it. I’ve got my big boy pants on.
Larry
